Recycling Day

I don't know about your area but where I live, we recycle. The city will give you a blue trash can and you can put your recyclables in it...and get nothing in return. WTF? As high as my trash bill is, you'd think they'd cut me a break for recycling but they don't so I said "no thanks" to the free blue trash can and I recycle on my own.

I have a 3 bin system for glass, aluminum and plastic. I line each one with cheap RECYCLED trash bags (yes, you can buy these, I get mine at Lowes) and when it is full, I tie it off and put it in my spare room that know one see's (no garage here). Since all I drink are diet products, ants are not a problem.

When I get about 10 bags full, I head off to my local recycling center which is less than a mile away and turn it in.
Today I got $21.42. If I didn't do this, the city would pocket that money instead of me. Again, WTF? I enjoy this chore. It doesn't take a lot of effort and turning all that in makes me feel like I'm doing my part for mama earth which I really need to do since I commute quite aways. Lowering my carbon footprint is essential to me and good for my wallet too!

If you don't already recycle, you should get started. You can buy cheap, plain trash cans at Lowes or Home Depot, Target, Wal-Mart, anywhere and get started. It's also a good way to teach your kids about recycling.

Do it for Mama....
